Our Real Estate Associates
Dean Neer was born--oh some time
ago--in Modoc County. He graduated with an BA and MBA from Stanford
University and served in city government in Santa Barbara before returning
to Modoc to help out his dad, a cattle rancher. He just never left; instead,
he earned his broker's license and joined a real estate firm in 1963. He
opened Dean Neer Realty in 1980 and bought Modoc Realty in 2000. He and his
wife Marie also raise registered Hereford cattle on their ranch just east of
Alturas.(Look at our Neer Hereford Ranch pages.) On his lap is his great
friend, Kinklebean. CRL# 00331407

Our office secretary, Shonna Widby, joined Dean Neer Modoc Realty early
in 2008. Shonna came to Modoc from Richmond in 1992 during one of our
cold winters. “Boy, was it winter!” she laughs. “I’m still trying to
get warm!” But Shonna stayed in Modoc because she liked the excellent
school
system here. She met and married Mike Widby, and between them, they
have three children: Cody, Jacob, and Ashley. Like most of us at Dean
Neer Modoc Realty, the Widby family love animals. They share their home
with two cats, Pepper and Tigger, and two dogs. Cougar is a Jack
Russell terrier and new family member is a German Shepherd mix,
Skye. She is the baby of the family. Widbys are outdoor enthusiasts,
spending lots of time “in their Modoc secret place” during warm
months. She won’t divulge the spot. Mike is a California Flooring
Contractor in Alturas, and comes highly recommended. Shonna has easily
fit in with our happy office family, and we are glad to have her.

been on the City Council for several years and serves as Alturas City

Alturas. He and his wife Sue are frequently active in fund raising

In
MEMORIAM: Dick often brought Ramsey to the office,
where he could romp with Cruiser and LIzzie. Ramsey
was a fine Black
Lab, and he is missed greatly.

Terry Quirk is
another valued Dean Neer
Modoc Realty associate.. Terry is a native Modoc-er with a lifetime of
sales experience, much of it in Modoc County. He has recently returned
from Redlands, California where he spent 13 years in the trailer

He later attended the College of San Mateo for two years before
returning home to begin a career in business.

When Dean Neer Modoc Realty
joined the information era and built a website, Marie was drafted to
design and maintain it. She took on the project, eager to
learn a new skill, and bumbled her way through for months, and now
years. She enjoys the challenge. She also
likes to read, draw, garden, with roses and irises being her great
passions. She loves her dogs, cats, peacock, and chickens, as well
as the numerous spiders she tolerates in the house, rationalizing that
they grab the flies and mosquitoes that find their way in.
Recently retired from a 37 year career of teaching, she loves keeping in
touch with former students. She misses the joy of teaching high
school English. Marie and Dean have been married, ummmm, well over a third of a century, and plan to make it much longer.
It must be said that her other great time-consuming passion is the music
of Mark Knopfler.
In fact, you can get there from here!

Lizzie, our Aussie, comes
from
Kantera Aussies in
Oregon. She is spunky and sassy and certainly lets you know she is
around the place. You can see Lizzie at the office about once a
week. |
Cruiser, also an
Australian Shepherd, was born in Idaho at
Akilah Aussies. Our mellow little guy got his name because he
just cruises around, saying hi to everyone. Cruiser spends a day at
the office about once a week. After several years, Marie still
checks in with Sue, his breeder to let her know how he's doing. |
